4 Things I Would Tell My Younger Self

If I could sit down with my younger self, there are a few lessons I’d share. Each one comes from years of experience, faith, and personal growth. Maybe you’ll find something in them that speaks to you, too.

1. Follow Your Dreams

If God gives you an idea or vision, don’t ignore it. Every idea comes from above — and if you don’t bring it to life, God will find someone else who will. Dreams are divine seeds planted in your spirit for a reason. You can dream all you want, but the question is: will you do?

“But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth.”— Deuteronomy 8:18

Follow your dreams boldly, but never forget God—for it is He who gives you the ability, wisdom, and strength to succeed. And don’t let fear, doubt, or procrastination rob you of what God has already equipped you to do.

2. Get a Mentor

You don’t have to do it all alone. Find someone who’s already where you want to be — or someone who can help you get there. They might not be in the exact same field, but if they’ve walked the path of wisdom, business, or leadership, there’s something valuable to learn.

A good mentor is more than a teacher — they’re a mirror and a guide. Learn from their mistakes and their victories.

And remember, people are watching you, too. Someone looks up to you, whether you realize it or not. So be mindful of what you say and do. Be the kind of person who lifts others higher.

Not everyone will want to see you succeed — some may even hope you fail so you won’t become competition. But that’s why mentorship and discernment matter. Surround yourself with those who genuinely want to see you win.

3. Don’t Make Hasty Decisions

Take time to think things through. Don’t rush into anything just because it looks good at the moment. Weigh your options. Make a pros and cons list. Pray about it.

If your heart’s not in it, don’t chase it. You must believe — truly believe — in what you’re going after. Confidence is key. If you doubt yourself, your actions will follow that doubt.

“Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.”— Proverbs 15:22

Obtain wisdom. Seek counsel. And when something isn’t working, don’t give up — learn, adjust, and grow.

4. Just Do It

Stop waiting for the perfect moment — it doesn’t exist. The time is now. Perfection is often just fear in disguise. Start where you are, with what you have, and trust that God will meet you along the way. You’ll never feel completely ready, but obedience and faith are what open doors. So whatever dream is on your heart — start. Do it scared. Do it messy. Do it faithfully. Because the world needs what God placed inside you.

And through it all, remember this: every gift, every idea, every opportunity comes from God. (James 1:17) Stay humble, stay grateful, and stay obedient to His voice. Because when you put Him first, He’ll take you further than your dreams ever could on their own.
